ADHD can feel overwhelming and sometimes debilitating. Getting simple To-Do list items done can seem like the most insurmountable goals. In addition, your energy level never quite feels reliable enough to allow you to follow through on completing tasks. Sound familiar? If you have not yet been diagnosed with ADHD, but are consistently having difficulties with organizational skills, task management, losing things, staying focused, hyperactivity, low motivation, mood swings, lethargy, insomnia and high levels of anxiety, you may be experiencing ADHD symptoms. To help work through your feelings of procrastination and overwhelm, I utilize a combination of Behavioral Activation and Motivational Interviewing techniques:
Motivational interviewing is a collaborative conversation style used to help you get unstuck and decrease uncertainty about change or taking action by prompting you to think deeply about your personal values and to incrementally build manageable routines and consistent steps that are aligned with those values.
Behavioral activation can then be used to break the cycle of stagnation or despair by working on a variety of exercises to increase your self-empathy, build on past strengths and successes, and develop consistent life-altering routines. These strategies are carefully designed to help you achieve mastery and confidence in taking concrete actions to improve your mood, motivation level and sense of well-being.
